“MONTE” was a commission for my friend Irene. She and I rode together many times through the woods of Sherborn, Massachusetts. She owned a horse named Fidgi, whose name was an acronym for Fidelity Growth and Income Mutual Funds. Irene was a shrewd investor, and her Fidelity returns financed Irene’s dream of owning a Thoroughbred. Years later, one of her riding chums acquired Monte, a lovely dressage-trained horse. Irene decided a portrait would make a marvelous gift, and she sent me a series of photos. With his luscious chestnut coloring, Monte was a delight to paint ... a very handsome fellow!
