Secure the Lifeboat (Study)
Acrylic on gessoed panel
8" x 10"

An old black-and-white photo of a clipper ship rounding the horn of South America in the treacheous waters of Drake Passage was the inspiration for this painting. I first made a composite with storm-driven waters to add drama, then colorized the picture digitally. Despite its small size, this painting is an undeniably dramatic depiction of the hazards of a life at sea.
