The Day after Christmas
Watercolor
17" x 23"

've always loved poinsettias. The gorgeous colors lend such a festive note to Christmas. But as soon as the Big Day is over, and the long bleak stretch of winter looms, the blooms seem out of place. I bought a bunch of small pots one December and had them all over the house. On December 26th, I set about removing all signs of Christmas, getting the house back to normal. But I didn't have the heart to ditch the plants. I set them out on a window bench in the sunporch. They were ecstatic! The sun bathed their petals with warmth every morning, and I couldn't resist doing a painting of them. Sometimes all that Christmasy red and green seems a bit corny ... but not with these beautiful flowers!
